Notes from the Choir Loft April 26
About the music this Sunday...
The Postlude this weekend (5:00pm Vigil, 9:00am & 10:30am Masses) is based on the hymn tune: O FILII ET FILIAE. The English translation is in our hymnal, No. 507 O Sons and Daughters. It tells the story of the faithful women that found Jesus at the tomb and doubting Thomas. The hymn culminates with the line: "How blest are they who have not seen, and yet whose faith has constant been, for they eternal life shall win. Alleluia!" We often sing a version of this hymn on Easter Sunday as well as Divine Mercy Sunday, so it's possible you may recognize it. After the closing hymn, feel free to open the hymnal and pray and meditate on this story and these words that have been around in the catholic church since 1494. It's one subtle way music can remind us of our faith.
The particular version of the Postlude is written by Healey Willan, a Canadian organist, who lived 1880-1968. Click here to read more about Healey Willan.
