Organ Concert by Michael Lianos

Michael Lianos, our organist here at the Cathedral, will play a concert on our amazing Aeolian-Skinner organ. Many organist will play the famous Widor Toccata on Easter. This toccata is a part of a larger organ symphony, Symphony No. 5 of Widor. It will display many of the exciting colors of our instrument as well as go through a whole trove of emotions. There is even one part where the organist is required to play on three separate keyboards at the same time as playing with their feet (two hands and three keyboards is a feat!). Charles-Marie Widor was a french organist at St. Sulpice in Paris from 1870 to 1933. The other selection on the program will be Paean by Herbert Howells which was written in 1940. The title of this piece means song of praise and is a joyous expression of extremely fast notes with very few tender breaks stretching to grand majestic moments. Herbert Howells served at the Royal College of Music in London, England from 1911 to 1979. Join us for this free concert; however, if you feel moved, there will be an opportunity to donnate towards the rebuilding of our Cathedral's towers.
